This morning, the air had changed

This morning, when I opened the windows, I knew that autumn was here.

I didn't know it was September 23rd yet. I'm often absent-minded; I rarely know what day it is, let alone the exact date.

But this morning, something had changed.

The light was softer, slightly orange. The air seemed different too. And then I saw that light settle on the vegetation I look at every morning and watch, day after day, transform at its own pace. A few leaves had begun to turn orange.

Autumn had arrived.

I truly love this season. It makes me want to slow down, take care of my body, and warm up the house. Not by turning on the radiators, but by creating a cozy haven: bringing out the blankets, putting on socks in the evening, rediscovering wool sweaters, and this desire to make my home more inviting.

I love everything that comes with this change. The fruits and vegetables that return this season, the first autumn recipes, the soups, the smells, the colors. The browns, the deep reds, the fading greens, the burgundy. Putting ankle boots back on after months of bare legs. And, of course, bringing out Chanel's Rouge Noir again.

It's these transitional seasons that amaze me the most. Those few weeks when you can feel nature changing day by day. In autumn, the days grow shorter and the longer nights return. The sun sets a little earlier each evening. I love that late afternoon light, lower, a little nostalgic. It's barely dinnertime and already you can see the first lights coming on behind the windows. I love that feeling.

Everything seems to invite you to go home.

Turning on a few dim lamps, perhaps a candle, preparing something warm, and finding peace and quiet at home while, outside, the season continues to transform the landscape. Perhaps that's simply what I love so much about autumn: the way it draws us back inward.

And you, what do you like most when autumn returns?
